How to get an Instagram Reel transcript
Three steps in any browser on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac. You don't need to save the video or install an app.
-
Copy the Instagram link
Open the Reel, tap the paper plane icon and choose Copy link. For a video in the feed, tap the three dots above the post. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar.
-
Paste it and get the transcript
Paste the link above and click Get transcript. The speech in the video is transcribed in a few seconds, and short Reels are usually done in under half a minute.
-
Copy or download
Copy the text, or download it as TXT or as SRT subtitles. Turn on timestamps to see when each line is said.
Getting the transcript of an Instagram video from the feed works the same way, whether or not the creator turned on captions.
Which Instagram links work
Any public post that has a video in it. Paste the link exactly as Instagram gives it to you, tracking parameters included.
- Reels:
instagram.com/reel/..., the link you get from the Share button on a Reel. - Video posts:
instagram.com/p/..., a video in the feed. For a carousel, the first video is transcribed. - IGTV and longer videos:
instagram.com/tv/..., the older IGTV links that still open on Instagram. - Share links from the app that end in
?igsh=...or?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link.
Private accounts, Stories, close-friends posts, live broadcasts and photo-only posts can't be read. If a link fails, check that it opens in a private browser window without logging in, or upload the video file in the full transcriber.
An Instagram transcript extractor for creators and marketers
The transcript is the spoken script of the video, word for word and punctuated, so you can read, search and reuse it.
Study viral Reels
Pull the script of a Reel that took off and see how the hook, the pacing and the call to action are written, line by line.
Repurpose your videos
Turn your own Reels into captions, carousel slides, YouTube Shorts descriptions, blog posts or newsletters without typing them out again.
Notes and accessibility
Keep notes from recipes, workouts and tutorials, quote an interview accurately, or give viewers who can't play sound a readable version.
Instagram video to transcript in 100+ languages
The generator converts the audio of an Instagram video into text with an AI speech recognition model. It detects the spoken language by itself, so Reels in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic or Indonesian work without any settings. Voice-overs are transcribed even with music playing behind them.
Instagram's own auto-generated captions only play on top of the video while you watch it, and only when they are turned on. There is no way to copy them or save them as a file. A transcript from this page works on any public Reel or video, and the text is yours to edit, search and keep.
Download the Instagram transcript as TXT or SRT
Pick the format that suits what you'll do with the text.
| Format | Best for | Works with |
|---|---|---|
| Copy text | Quick quotes, captions and notes | Any app, ChatGPT, Notion, Google Docs |
| TXT | Reading and editing the script, with or without timestamps | Any text editor, Word |
| SRT | Subtitles that stay in sync with the video | CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, YouTube Studio |

Instagram Transcript Generator FAQ
How do I get the transcript of an Instagram Reel?
Open the Reel, tap the paper plane (Share) icon and choose Copy link. Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and click Get transcript. A few seconds later the full transcript appears on the page, ready to copy or download.
How do I get the transcript of an Instagram video?
It works the same way for videos posted to the feed. Tap the three dots above the post, choose Copy link, and paste the instagram.com/p/... link into the box. On a computer you can copy the address from the browser bar.
Is the Instagram transcript generator free, with no login?
Yes. You can transcribe 3 Instagram videos a day for free, each up to 30 minutes long, without creating an account or signing in. A paid plan removes the daily and length limits.
Does Instagram have transcripts?
Instagram can show auto-generated captions on Reels and videos, but they only play on top of the video. There is no button to copy or download the whole transcript. This tool transcribes the audio of a public Reel or video so you get the full text as a file.
Can I download the Instagram transcript with timestamps?
Yes. Download the transcript as a TXT file, with or without timestamps, or as an SRT subtitle file that works in CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and YouTube Studio.
Can I download the Reel video or its audio here?
No. This is a transcript tool, not a downloader. You get the words that are spoken in the video as text, TXT or SRT, and the video itself stays on Instagram.
Which languages are supported?
More than 100 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Indonesian, French, German, Turkish and Japanese. The spoken language is detected automatically. To translate the transcript, upload the video in the full transcriber.
How accurate is the transcript?
Clear speech is usually transcribed almost word for word, with punctuation. Loud music, several people talking at once or heavy slang can cause mistakes, so check names, prices and numbers before you publish the text.
Can I reuse the transcript of someone else's Reel?
Transcripts for personal use, such as notes, research, accessibility or studying how a video is made, are generally fine. The words belong to the creator, so ask for permission before you republish their script.
Transcripts are created from the audio of public Instagram posts. TranscribeText is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.
